Scarlets Appoint New CEO

Pro Rugby Wales, the body that represents the four professional regional rugby teams in Wales – Cardiff Blues, Newport Gwent Dragons, Ospreys Rugby and Scarlets – is delighted with the news that Scarlets have confirmed the appointment of a new Chief Executive who will lead the region going forward.

Darran Phillips, a Welsh speaker originally from Aberdare, has been appointed as Scarlets Chief Executive and will take the region forward in what is an exciting period of change and development for Welsh rugby.

Mr Phillips has spent the last 20 years in senior commercial roles outside of Wales, has a wealth of experience in the commercial sector and his links with rugby span nearly two decades. During his time as a Director at Zurich Financial Services, he worked on the company’s ground breaking rugby sponsorships of the Zurich Rugby Premiership and British and Irish Lions.  ? ?

For the last four years Phillips has been the Chief of Staff for leading global fund manager, Threadneedle Investments, in the City of London. Phillips starts his role as Scarlets yesterday, (Monday 3rd November).

Speaking about his appointment Darran Phillips said: “It’s an honour to take on the role of CEO at the Scarlets and I’m delighted to be in a position to accept this challenging role.

“There’s a strong sense of community and belonging to the Scarlets, not only in West Wales but in the UK and globally. People learn important values through rugby and we’re fortunate to have a brand with which people can identify worldwide.”

In a move to further strengthen the Scarlets Executive Management Team, Jon Daniels will take a position on the board as Chief Operating Officer with responsibility for day to day business affairs.

Scarlets Chairman Nigel Short said: “We are delighted to have secured the services of Darran Phillips. He has a unique blend of International Commercial Experience and appreciation for the Scarlets values. We are confident that the combination of Darran and Jon’s skillset will drive the Scarlets business forward locally, nationally and internationally.”

Pro Rugby Wales warmly welcomes these excellent developments at Scarlets, which will help the wider mission to deliver sustainable and competitive, professional rugby in Wales.
